Struggling to stay positive in light of messed up finances

Struggling to stay positive in light of messed up finances

I have been so inspired by the Braveheart site and am seeking to be more positive in my life and to have a prosperity mindset.

However, I seem to be struggling with making financial mistakes and not knowing how to manage my money.

I'm feeling depressed and overwhelmed and don't know where to start. I did go talk to one of the bankers at the credit union where I'm a member and was just upfront with them about the mess I've gotten into since my husband died.

They referred me to a financial consulting program called Balance Pro, which is a free service that the bank refers people to. I have a phone interview with them on Thursday to go over my finances, expenses & debt to see how to get out of this deep that I'm swimming in.

I'm feeling so ashamed and scared and don't know how to have a mindset of prosperity when I'm not sure how to handle money.

Thanks for listening.

Andrea,

I hope things are going better for you. I'm a Certified Financial Planner® professional with over 30 years in the industry and I just wanted to comment that it takes great courage to ask for help, especially at a time when a person feels so lost and vulnerable.

For anyone reading this, please don't feel shame around not understanding how money matters work. We don't get this education anywhere. I feel strongly that we should be teaching money education in schools, but for the most part it's still not being done.

I'm glad to hear you are working with an advisor, Andrea. Just be sure to trust your instincts. There are great advisors out there, and not so great advisors. If you get the slightest feeling that this person is not working in your best interests, run for the hills. I'd seen many abuses in my 30 year career and am doing what I can to educate people about how to avoid them.

I wish you all the best, both with your business, and in life!

And if you haven't discovered Catherine Ponder's work on Prosperity, I highly recommend it. Her book, The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity, was written decades ago but still is relevant today. Decide to be prosperous and it will happen!

All the best,
Janet

Hello Braveheart sisters!

I just wanted to add to this discussion. I have recently started my own business in the greeting card and gifting industry. One of the main reason I have started this company is because I am working for financial freedom. I am 23 years old and always wondered how I was going to be successful and then I was presented Send Out Cards. I am inspired by this Braveheart community and I can help others who are looking for an opportunity to gain financial freedom themselves. I am feeling empowered as a women to have my own business and by being able to help people with this amazing opportunity I am a part of!

contact me if you want to learn more about what I am doing! livelaughnsend@yahoo.com

I would also love and really appreciate success stories from other women and professional advise you have to offer :)

Just wanted to update my situation. This site has really inspired me. I am definitely seeing improvement in my prosperity levels. I've been working on getting my credit improved. I was able to get all 3 scores and was very happy to discover that my numbers have really increased over the last year. I just hadn't really seen a comparison. That was an eye opener.

In the meantime, my direct sales business with Mary Kay is really starting to take off and I am able to visualize where I'm going with my business. I went and got a DBA registered and now have a business account so that I can keep my personal & business money separate and better manage the two.

Wow, this is really getting me excited and knowing that it is in me and that I am capable of achieving success and prosperity.

Thanks all for the words of encouragement and support. @etorrance, I can see that you totally get this widowhood journey and the social security issues. Makes me realize that I can and will get through this part of the journey.

So glad I found you all.

(((Andrea))),

I echo the sentiments of the other fine ladies here in that I am so proud of you for realizing you needed to get some help and then stepping up and taking that action. I so remember what it was like to feel overwhelmed when Brad passed, to lose the SS benefits when my oldest turned 18 and having lost the 2nd benefit with my next daughter...so only collecting for the 1 child now and it's a significant cutback. It can be overwhelming and very scary but you are a Goddess and as a Goddess, you are taking back your life!

You are already shifting to a prosperity mindset. Continue reading, posting and getting inspiration from our wonderful community. Look for the gift in every experience and stay as joyful as you can and as grateful as you can. It's those positive vibrations that will help you to see the solutions you seek as you progress, heal and grow.

With Laughter and Magic,

Elaine

Thank you for your words of support and encouragement. I had a great consultation with the financial advisor and am working on tracking my expenses and looking for where I can cut back so that I can pay down debt and start saving more. I also started using an online bank and have started putting just $15 a pay period into it just to get started.

I've known that my oldest daughter would stop recieving social security death benefits when she turned 18 on July the 4th, however, somehow I missed the memo that while her portion would be re-distributed equally among my younger two daughters, I didn't realized that it would be cut by $420.00 a month.

However, the really great news in light of the loss of that money is that I'm currently working a side business in direct sales and had my largest home party Monday night. Up until now, I've only made around $200 to $400 per party, but that night I sold $900 in retail and I get 50% in profit with this company. So it was amazing to realize that what I had just lost in income I had regained in my new business and it helped me get over my fear of doing this business and realized that I can do this. I also got over 20 names in referrals from my guests.

So I am seeing the light.
Thanks.

It is good to see that you are ready to begin anew. I am proud of the steps you are taking. First recognizing where you are and what needs to be done to make your life situation better. I think I am inspired to say to you that you can breathe (oxybreathe) through this. And you will come through it okay. I have been where you are now. Once I decided to make the changes and released my faith, and oh yes, each morning I quoted prosperity scriptures without fail, I began to see new results. My food bill (two young children at the time) went down because we kept getting invited out to meals and events where food was served. I learned to enjoy the parks and met a lot of new people. I stopped pining for yesterday's life and started living my new reality in a better way. I am just sharing a part of my experience to say that as I changed inside, my outside was changing too. Good luck to you. I already see you as a winner in this.

Braveheart Sister I am proud of you.
I am proud that you are trying to be positive despite your problems.
I am proud that you have recognized that you need help with your financial situation and have taken steps to get that help.
I hope your interview with Balance Pro goes well tomorrow, they should give you good advice on how to handle your money.
Try not to feel ashamed and scared, you have done nothing to be ashamed of and there is nothing to be scared of.
Millions of people have financial problems.
You should be proud that you are sorting your problems out; you can learn how to handle your money. You can change your mindset, you are a strong and capable woman, you are a Braveheart woman. If you start to feel ashamed or scared try and feel Braveheart instead.

Very best wishes
Christine
