Hi, I’m Alison, founder of The Longevity Garden, a sanctuary where we learn to playfully embrace longevity now! Today I’d like to talk about the tree of Jealousy.

This is a tree with spreading branches and vines that cling around and wind themselves spreading into every aspect of our lives; both professionally and personally.

Here are 4 common symptoms:
• In our career we might feel jealous of a co-worker who gets that promotion, or maybe we envy another colleague’s easy ability to hang out and communicate in a great rapport with the team.
• Maybe we’ve been trying to conceive for years. After diligently working hard and dedicating ourselves to a career full of adrenaline, functioning in a man’s world and denying our feminine nature for so long, we find we’re unable to conceive. With so many years of unsuccessful attempts, we may turn bitter towards others. When we look at a woman with her swollen belly, we feel so much jealousy. That stab of jealousy ages us on a cellular level.
• We may feel something completely different. It may be when we look at someone else’s strength, we feel so weak and full of doubt. We see that self confidence and we feel jealous.
• Maybe it’s that girlfriend that gets all the relationships, enjoying easy dating and then “poof” she finds her soul mate and we feel so eaten up.

Whatever the trigger might be the effect is the same. That poison and bile of jealousy rises within us. It takes the blossoms in our garden and just withers them. It turns us into dry sticks of bitterness and robs us of the quality of our life and longevity that we need and deserve. I heard a definition once, “Jealousy is the fear of losing what you don’t own.” How silly can that be? Why would we want to take our time and precious energy, turn our focus outside and compare ourselves to other people and allow jealousy to eat away at the core of our being?

Here are 4 simple solutions we can use to cut down the tree of jealousy from our gardens:
• Remove our attention from comparisons with others
• Turn our attention within and take an inventory
• Learn to appreciate the things we do have on a visceral level
• Bask in gratitude and feel that joy blossoming within us When we’re in that state we will attract everything we ever desired in our lives, be it the baby, the promotion, the soul mate, you name it. We become like a magnet in our lives attracting all we desire.

Great passage. It really puts in perspective how toxic jealousy is. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Dee Dee, gratitude is so important. Yet it is tough to feel gratitude without appreciation. Once we learn that everything is perfect and each event carries important lessons we can bring appreciation and gratitude into our lives. There isn't a greater recipe for staying youthful than that heady combination.

Dear Barb, Ahhhh now I understand... your Don Quixote in disguise. It all makes sense now... Thanks for weighing in with your insight and wisdom. Always appreciated and received with that life giving gratitude!

Here's to embracing longevity now! If not now when?

Dear BraveHeart Alison,

Thank you for sharing ... :-x ...

As I have hinted before ... weeds don't belong in b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l gardens ... and EXCELLENCE and GRATITUDE are the focus of ALL who dream the TRULY impossible dreams ...

Our world IS in DEEP trouble as anyone who pays attention to the news knows full well ... I suggest as often as I can find time for ALL to pay attention to the REAL world ...

When we FOCUS on what WE EACH can do to help the situation ... jealousy and/or comparisons and/or one-upmanship really and TRULY have no place in the garden of OUR DREAMS ...

I guess I AM a born optimist ... a born DREAMER ... a born BELIEVER ... ALL I know is EXCELLENCE and GRATITUDE and the guiding principles: Substance over form ... Quality over quantity ... These guide LIVING with POSITIVE OPTIMISM a REALity with no room for weeds and/or negativity and/or negative emotions ... Simply no room ...

Your solutions appear to offer the same for those who may struggle with emotions which do not serve anyone ...

Knowing that regardless of how hard EACH of us may try there will always be some in this world who step to the tune of a different drummer ... that is BEing REAL ... In the final analysis, VIGILANCE is key ... This I have learned from tilting at windmills my entire lifetime ...

So, as BraveHeart Ellen likes to say ... "Soldier on!" my dear BHW Sister ... "Soldier on!" ...

With profound and abundant gratitude ... my deep respect ... my love and many blessings ... :-x ...

Aloha pume hana,

Barb
