soul-whisperI’ve been communicating with my main spirit guide, Sarah, more and more lately.

And yes, I know how absolutely woo-woo this sounds. I know that. If you’re not sure what to think of this, believe me, I get it! Just a couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it either. But… so many miracles have happened in my life to help me believe, and so I’m 100% on board now. My skepticism has taken a back seat to my spirituality, and I’m enjoying this magical ride! If you would care to suspend your rational thoughts for a moment and continue, I would love that!

I recently wrote about Sarah in my post about the blinking lights. (Click here if you are just now hearing about it.) I had been on a self-care streak (a record for myself, really), and the magical strand of lights was blinking every day - always when I stopped working and took care of myself. And then I fell back into my old pattern of working around the clock and barely coming up to breathe. And for days and days, the lights remained solid.

I would try to get Sarah to budge - I would watch a movie and look over to see if she approved. But the lights remained solid. I took a few hours off and again ran in the room to see, but still they were solid. I was so, so tired, and so finally I decided that I needed an entire day of self care. An entire day to rest and replenish. So yesterday, I turned my den into a cocoon. I closed the curtains, brought in my pillows and blanket, shut the door, and camped out on the couch. I read an amazing book (more on this soon!), watched chick flicks, spaced out, and slept. I thought for sure that would be enough for the lights to blink. But still, they remained solid.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to get myself out of this self-care deficit.

And then last night, something happened. The moon was full, and I felt a heaviness on my heart. It was the lunar eclipse, which is a time to look backward and release and heal from pain from our past. Early in the day, a painful memory popped into my mind seemingly out of the blue. Seventeen years ago, one of my pets died horribly, and I wasn’t there to protect him. While in my head I know that I couldn’t have saved him and that I didn’t do anything wrong, my heart has had such a hard time releasing the self blame. It’s one of those pains that I had stuffed down very deep and didn’t realize how much it was still impacting my everyday life. Because it’s not something that I want to spend time thinking about, I quickly pushed it out of my mind and moved onto thinking about something else.

And then I spent the day reading about shame and vulnerability - courtesy of the brilliant Brene Brown. (I’ll definitely write an entire post about this amazing book soon.) And all of this was seeping into my unconscious - chipping away at my broken heart and helping the pieces rise to the surface.

Later that night, I was talking to my soul-love, Dan, about this powerful book, and the subject of shame came up. While we hadn’t talked about my sweet baby dying in many years, it’s the example that he brought up. He was saying that I carried such shame around this when it didn’t make any sense - it wasn’t my fault.

And that’s when the tears started flowing. That’s when the releasing and healing began.

Dan helped me see how this incident still held so much power because it wasn’t just about my sweet one’s death. It was about my not being there to protect him, just like I felt like I wasn’t there to protect myself when I was molested as a child. On an unconscious level, I swore that I would never allow anything bad to happen to my babies, and so I felt like I let myself down when he died. Especially because I was away having a girls’ weekend when it happened - having fun and practicing self care. I let my guard down, and my baby died.

So in my mind at the time, I put it all together and wrapped it into one big shame ball. I equated self care with loss. I equated joy and fun with tragedy.

Which is why I have had such a hard time letting down my guard ever since. Which is why I’ve had such a hard time taking care of myself and enjoying my life. I believed that bad things happen when you let your guard down. They did when I was a child, they did with my sweet pet, and I definitely wasn’t going to let it happen again.

So I pushed and pushed. There wasn’t time for relaxing - not on my watch. I was always vigilant and careful with my fuzzy babies. I wasn’t going to lose another one. And in the process of all of this pushing, I became extremely fatigued and joyless.

And all of this came to a head last night.

Realizing these patterns was so freeing. Seeing how they were related to my childhood helps me see that it’s time to heal this space within my heart, and now I know where to start: with the child within me that didn’t feel protected.

Anyway - back to my spirit guide. After many, many days of the lights being solid, today they started blinking again. And I realized that it wasn’t just that I needed to veg out on the couch. It wasn’t just that I needed to stop working. She needed me to go within and process these deep emotions. She needed me to open up and let these painful emotions out. And even though they are painful to feel, I already feel so much lighter and relieved. I feel more at peace and much freer.

Sarah had a message for me that I’m sharing with you below. It was very healing for me to read, and I hope it’s helpful for you as well.

I need you to hear me. I need you to listen - really listen. I need you to open up and allow what I have to say to go deep into your heart. I need you to let it sit there for a long while before you react.

I need you to remember why you’re here. I need you to stop doing so much - like you’re in a race, and the world is gaining on you.

I need you to reflect more and push less. I need you to be still. To take breaks. To give yourself permission to be joyful and free.

I need you to love yourself more - to know that you are amazing and kind and beautiful in every way. I need you to believe that you are worthy. You are enough.

I need you to release the shame that you carry. It’s time. I need you to be brave enough to bring this pain to the surface - shine the light on it, so you can watch it dissolve into the universal love.

I need you to relax into the unknown. I need you to trust that you’ll always be loved and taken care of.

I need you to carry this deep knowing that you’re never alone and that you’re always supported by the universe. I need you to step into the greatness that has always been you.

I need you to embrace the ebb just as much as the flow. I need you to reward yourself for what you don’t do just as much as you reward yourself for your accomplishments.

I need you to ask for help and reach out to others when you are tired and weary. I need you to be willing to receive guidance and support. I need you to continue being vulnerable - knowing that your truth will resonate with someone.

I need you to share from your heart at all times. Your beautiful, loving heart can light the world. I need you to bravely shine your light - knowing that it will illuminate another’s path.

I need you to talk to me. To share with me. To include me. Always.

I need you to remember that you’re having an experience of being human right now. This is true. But you are still inside your body - the you that you’ve always been. Remember that essence - that purity - that loving being. She’s still you. You’re still her.

I need you to remember that you’re pure love. That we’re all pure love. That we’re all connected because of this love.

Remember this love within you when you’re feeling down or you are tired and unsure and can’t see the path ahead.

Remember this light within you when you are afraid of moving forward.

Remember that you have a beautiful reason for being here.

You have a purpose to spread light all around the world. And in order for you to illuminate the world, you first have to illuminate yourself - through rest and replenishing and stillness and reflection. Please remember that. I need you to really get that.

I’m always here, and I’m always loving you.

♥ Sarah

Reading Brene’s book yesterday helped me see that while it can be uncomfortable to share vulnerably from my heart, it’s absolutely essential that I do. That we all do. In doing so, we give each other permission to do the same. So while this post isn’t the easiest for me to share, I’m doing so because I want to show up right where I am. I want to meet you in that place where we are pure and authentic and exactly who we are.

So this is me - unfiltered and in process. Just like the rest of us. Living life and learning each step of the way.

Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with me. I am forever grateful.

Hugs,

excusesWhen you look at your life - how you spend your days, where you live, who you surround yourself with, etc. - do you feel happy, content, passionate, satisfied, and joyful? Or do you feel resentful, angry, sad, apathetic, and afraid?

Regardless of which description depicts your life, do you believe that you have created it? Would you agree that no one - absolutely no one - is to blame for your unhappiness or dissatisfaction? Just like no one else can take credit for your happiness and contentment. It all comes back to you.

We have all created our lives. 100%. A nd sometimes that can feel empowering, especially when your life is working wonderfully. But other times it can feel disheartening. Like when you look at your life and feel like nothing is going right.

At some point in our life, we are going to get tired of blaming others and disempowering ourselves in the process. At some point in our life, we are going to step up, stop making excuses, and start creating the life we know we are so deserving of.

I know all about excuses. Really. I have made so many of them throughout my life.

For decades, sickness was my go-to excuse. I let myself off the hook far more often than I should have because I knew I could fall back on being ill. I allowed myself to stay safe - depending on others - for years because I was too afraid to step up and grab my own life by the reins and live!

I used the fact that I was shy as an excuse. I would gracefully bow out of opportunities because I didn’t want to be in the spotlight.

I used my crooked teeth as an excuse to not be seen. I’ll wait until they are straightened, I said to myself. Then I’ll be ready to get out there - into the public eye. (I had braces as a teenager and didn’t wear my retainers… lesson learned for sure.)

I used my work as an excuse to keep me from going within and connecting with my soul. There was always a deadline and always a reason why there wasn’t enough time to take care of myself and love myself a little bit.

I used my lack of money as an excuse to keep me in a busy cycle - again so I wouldn’t have the luxury to go within and discover/uncover what was going on deep inside my soul.

So many excuses. I had been making them for so many years, and I didn’t even realize they were excuses. I had used them so often that I truly felt that they were my truth.

Wow.

Until one day, in a rare moment of reflection, I realized that I was the only one who could change my life. I was the only one who could turn things around. I was the only one who could consciously choose to stop making excuses and start living - really living.

This meant facing fears and moving forward and feeling uncomfortable and diving inside my heart to discover the deep reasons why I began making these excuses in the first place - what I had been avoiding and why.

And it’s not like this process started one night and was complete by the next. Definitely not.

It meant saying yes to opportunities. It meant stepping through my shyness and physical insecurities and allowing myself to be seen. It meant slowing down and not working around the clock so that I gave myself time to reflect and go within.

To be honest, the process continues even today. It’s a moment-by-moment awareness. It’s a constant checking in and asking myself if I am being true to my soul or if I am shying away from it. This consciousness has become like a best friend to me - staying by my side and frequently asking me throughout the day if I am making choices that empower me or disempower me.

I can tell you that underneath the excuses was pain and sadness and regret and disappointment. And it wasn’t fun to work through all of that. Definitely not. But clearing all of this gunk out and moving into a clear space - a new space - felt so freeing. A space where I could begin again and choose to live without excuses for myself or my life.

And that’s what I wish for us all. To choose the path of empowerment and self responsibility. To honor our soul by staying conscious and being brave enough to walk along this journey without excuses. To be brave enough to step into whatever scares us - knowing that we are always loved and always taken care of.

So now it’s your turn.

Where in your life are you making excuses?

Where in your life are you not being completely honest with yourself?

Where in your life have you given away your power?

And how can you get it back?

Because I know you can. You are so strong - so very strong.

And living a life without excuses is such a beautiful and empowered way to live.

Who wouldn’t want that?

Please help spread the love by sharing this post on Facebook and Twitter.

Big hug,

And now, let’s get to this week’s beautiful soul and her wonderful offer just for you!

FinalJen2011

This week, I am featuring Jennifer Urezzio from Know Soul’s Language! Jennifer and I are both Team Inspiration Partners for Aspire Magazine, which is how we met.

She’s an intuitive with a special gift of helping you connect with your soul’s language through a detailed system that she created.

I recently had a session with her, and in it she shared one of my soul languages: The Image Maker. This means that I have the ability to see someone’s soul and bring that goodness and love to the light. She said that I can see past the masks and get to what’s real, which is definitely how I interact with everyone I meet. I love seeing someone’s true essence and sharing it with them, maybe even before they can see it. " class="wp-smiley"/>

Jennifer and I sat down to chat a bit more about how this system of identifying our soul languages emerged, what her own languages are, and so much more!

She’s offering you a FREE 15-minute reading to learn one of your languages, which I’m so excited for you to do!

I’ll share our interview first, and then keep reading to learn all about this special offer.

***

I am fascinated with the Soul Languages and how you came up with them! Would you please share how this beautiful system came to you?

The information was received via guidance. Several years ago I was at a conference, looking around at the other attendees and wondering why I connected instantly with some while I didn’t feel compelled to speak to others. I asked the Universe, “How can I attract more people like these?” The answer was, “You speak the same language.”

That answer led to the paradigm of Soul Language. A way for people to create a conscious connection with their soul and put some tangibility to the intangible (the soul).

Could you share why it’s helpful for us to know our Soul Language?

For centuries, people have been searching to find out who they really are, why they are here, and what it all means. Know Soul’s Language gives us the insight and the tools to answer these questions in an accessible, relatable way.

By understanding your Soul Languages, you will be able to listen more closely to your inner wisdom, expand your awareness, and enjoy your life.

What are your personal Soul Languages? How has knowing them helped you?

Everyone speaks from three different categories of languages. There are 107 different Languages across the three categories. They are your languages this lifetime, they do not change.

My mission language, which is the Axiom of Quest Language, is called Equalizer. Your mission isn’t about doing; it is about being. So my mission here is to create and be balanced for myself and then offer that opportunity for balance and connection to others.

My Axiom of Translation, which is the language category that helps you understand how you fuel your mission and how you will be known here, is called Teacher of Integrity. It’s about balancing and understanding the consciousness of love. When I move back into the consciousness of love, I’m back in integrity and therefore back on purpose.

My third language, which is the category of Tone (which is the Soulful personality), is called Graceful Warrior. It is all about grace, movement, courage, and strength.

Once you know your three Languages you have a one-liner for your Soul. Mine is: I help myself and others come into balance with love and courage.

How has it helped me? I was able to let go of a lot of anger. I have more supportive relationships. I have stopped trying to be other people and have accepted myself. I’m living and being my sacred work. And, when I’m in frustration and pain, I have tools and my soul to turn to now - knowing that even in those times, I’m still loved and supported.

When we look outside ourselves for this validation and love, we tend to suffer. We do this with our jobs, our relationships, money, etc. Knowing your Soul Languages helps you feel connected, provides tools and guidance, and gives you a knowing that you are loved no matter what is happening on the outside.

What can someone expect during a session with you?

All sessions can be done over the phone or via Skype. Often, people thank me for putting words to something that they knew was inside of them. There is often a shift of consciousness, so individuals feel more supported. And, because I’m a tangible person, there is always a tool that individuals can start using to create transformation each day. And of course, the last thing is that individuals have a new way to talk to their soul and their higher self.

What makes your soul sing?

Literally singing does.

What does your soul want you to know?

What it wants everyone to know: that we are one with the Divine.

What is coming up on the horizon for you?

The Soul Language book is being released shortly. And, The Business of Soul telesummit is coming up in September. Stayed tuned for that information…

Is there anything you would like to share?

Allow the love within to be felt.

soul languages

Here’s a note from Jennifer about Know Soul’s Language:

Who am I? What am I here for? Why do I keep falling into the same old patterns with my work and relationships?

For centuries, people have been searching to find out who they really are, why they are here, and what it all means. Know Soul’s Language gives us the insight and the tools to answer these questions in an accessible, relatable way.

By understanding your Soul Languages, you will be able to listen more closely to your inner wisdom, expand your awareness, and enjoy your life.

With Know Soul’s Language you will…

  • Discover your mission
  • Learn how you consciously or unconsciously use your natural gifts, talents and abilities
  • Develop your intuition
  • Quiet inner critics
  • Realize and expand your goals
  • Become a strong leader
  • Let go of overwhelm
  • Create from a place of power
  • Understand you are never lost
  • Let go of the “I should know betters”
  • Settle into a deeper level of faith and trust
  • Experience unconditional love for yourself and others

By understanding your Soul’s mission and how you relate to the world around you, you will be able to increase your effectiveness in your business, in your purpose, and in your personal life. By tapping into your true self, you’ll gain a sense of clarity and alignment, you’ll become a more effective leader, and you’ll foster more profound relationships, which will help you feel more supported and connected.

I am honored to share with you this new insight into how the Soul expresses itself — Know Soul’s Language — which provides guidance for understanding our nature and tools for accessing deeper levels of awareness.

Whether you are just getting started or have been on the path for a while, understanding your Soul Languages will reduce your day-to-day struggles and help you achieve a higher level of success. I know because that’s what it has done for me and for countless others who are using this tool to recognize their purpose and live from a place of power and truth.

Jennifer is offering all Soul Speak readers a FREE 15-minute Soul Language session! In it, she’ll identify and introduce you to one of your soul languages!

listenOver the last two months, I have received guidance from two beautiful friends (who each happen to be amazing intuitives): Karen Hager and Donna Hartt.

At different times, they each shared the same message with me: it was time to listen. To the universe. To my guides. To you.

It was time to slow down and re-center myself. It was time to reconnect with my soul and receive the next steps for my journey.

As many of you know, I have been editing my book, Coming Back to Life, for several months. And it feels like it’s just not quite finished. I’m realizing that it’s not finished because the final piece can’t come from me. It’s meant to come from outside of me. It’s meant to come from you.

I’m writing this book for all of us. To help us navigate our way through this life - balancing the spiritual world and also our human world.

Part of my own spiritual journey has been opening up and allowing others in. To know that I don’t have to do it alone. And letting others in has been such a beautiful experience for me. My entire life expanded and brightened.

So why have I been trying to write this book entirely on my own? I now see that it will be such a powerful reflection of this beautiful way of living openly if I let you in.

And what I love about life is that we can always choose differently and walk down a different path. Which is why I’m opening my book up to you. I’m opening my heart up to you. I’m letting you into my world - lovingly, completely, and wholeheartedly.

I’m listening.

Wh at do you need?
What are you searching for?
What do you feel is missing?
What do you yearn for?
What are you seeking?
What are you grateful for?
What are you loving?
What are you afraid of?
What are you unsure of?

I’m listening.

And I’ll take what you share into my heart and feel the energy behind what you write. I’ll connect with your heart and take your words into my soul. I’ll look for patterns and I’ll wait for a sign from my guides that this is what was missing - that this is the final piece of the message that needed to be shared.

I have complete faith that you are holding this piece. I do. And I have complete faith that you will offer it lovingly in the comments below.

What would you like me to know? to take into my heart? to have rest deep within my soul?

What would you like to share? What keeps you up at night or wakes you early in the morning? What sits heavy on your heart or taps away at your brain?

If you could wave a magic wand over your life, how would things change?

Do you need help with forgiveness, releasing negative beliefs, changing your story, loving yourself, loving others, trusting in the Universe/God, believing in this magical world, letting others in, leaping into your dream life?

I’m listening.

I’m here. I really am.

I want to hear you. To know you. To stop my own busyness and get off of my own treadmill to really be here with you. To share this moment together. You sharing and me listening. Connecting as two souls on this beautiful journey - side by side.

I’m listening.

And I am asking you to open your heart and share. For you, for me, and for everyone else who was thinking it but maybe wasn’t feeling strong enough or brave enough to put it out there. For everyone who will read this book when it comes out - who needs to hear these words seep into their soul.

You are holding them. You are carrying the missing piece.

And I can’t wait for you to share it with me.

I’m listening.

Big hug and so much gratitude,

I_Believe_cover_7.25Have you ever wondered where your beliefs came from? Have you ever stopped to question if they were serving you or hindering you?

Our beliefs are truly our foundation – they determine what we believe we can and can’t do. Before we can make changes in our lives, we first have to examine our beliefs.

How would your life be different if you believed anything were possible?

Imagine for a moment that you knew two kids - a brother and sister. One of them was told by her parents that she could do anything, be anything, and achieve anything. The other was told by his parents that he would never do anything, be anything, or achieve anything. How do you think their lives would turn out? My guess is that it would be much easier for the sister to reach her dreams - she only had the positive belief instilled in her that she could. I would also guess that the brother would have a harder time reaching his dreams - he had the negative belief instilled that he never would. So in order to reach them, he would first need to consciously release this belief that never belonged to him to begin with.

What I love about our time here on this planet is that we can also change and we can always grow. So, if we grew up with certain negative beliefs (like the brother), we can let them go as adults. If we picked up a belief that no longer feels like us and no longer serves us, we can always choose to let it go. Always.

But how do we do that? My friend, Eldon Taylor, has written a wonderful book that will help you release the negative beliefs and welcome the positive ones. It’s called I Believe: When What You Believe Matters, and I’m happy to share his interview about it here today. You can click here to read all about the book. He’s offering over $5000 of great bonus gifts if you order it!

What was the motivation and inspiration behind your latest book, I Believe?

I have spent over thirty years investigating why people self-sabotage or limit themselves, thus experiencing so much less than their highest best! What I have found is the reason rests solely in their beliefs—not their spiritual beliefs so much as their life beliefs. I found this to be true when I was conducting lie-detection tests and discovering criminality, and equally true when I worked with elite athletes, business executives, professionals, and lay people alike. The bottom line is this: What you believe always matters! It’s like a web that fastens itself to belief-anchors, causing disheartening mediocrity in place of the glorious success we all seek.

I Believe spells out the power of belief and how it influences everything from our health and longevity to our success with relationships and life. Astounding as it may seem, belief can (and has) defied our so-called laws of science and it has done so over and over again. As ordinary and trite as it may seem, belief nevertheless makes all the difference in success in all walks of life. Knowing how we acquire our beliefs, and which beliefs serve us while others sabotage us, is critical to maximizing our individual potential. I Believe: When What You Believe Matters! was written to empower you with the roadmap to decipher and re-write the programming governing your life.

How has the belief in positive thinking impacted your life?

Year s ago I had the proverbial chip on my shoulder. I began paying my own way at age 12, paying my parents room and board and buying my own clothes and school books. I left home at an early age filled with anger directed at my parents. I could go on, but the point can be summarized this way as well. You could fairly say that back then, the bumper sticker stating “Life sucks and then you die,” accurately reflected my beliefs.

As time went on, both my education and avocation revealed something truly important: I could not blame anyone else for the problems with my life and I was the only one who could change it! I basically learned how to examine all of my beliefs, and how to change those that were not working for me. As a result, I have been happily married for over 30 years, am successful in my career and feel that I am on the correct spiritual path for me. Also my business is focused on teaching others the techniques I have learned, and today they help people all around the world uncover their highest potential. The thank you notes I receive daily truly do brighten my life.

What is the first and foremost message you want your readers to receive from I Believe?

Tha t they were born with all the gifts they need to fully maximize this life experience. If things are not going as well as they had once hoped, then it is time to reassess their beliefs and to choose once again. The fact is, there is a truly remarkable and nearly unlimited power that resides within all, that is the very essence of our individual uniqueness. All we need to do is tap into the source of our ability and express the gift that is who we really are.

Eldon has spent over 25 years researching the power of the mind and developing scientifically proven methods to use this power to enhance the quality of your life. I Believe is a book that will not only inspire you, but will highlight the kinds of beliefs you hold that may be causing you to fail. In the process, it will provide you with the opportunity to choose, once again, the beliefs that drive your life.

Be sure to check out Eldon’s amazing launch party! There are tons of bonus gifts!

When we begin to examine our beliefs – our lives have the potential to change drastically. We have the power to eliminate all of our limiting beliefs. How amazing is that?

We’ve all had that moment in our life where we realized that no one was going to save us.

All of our fantasies of being rescued from ourselves, our life, everything, came crashing down. No one was going to swoop in and fix everything that needed fixing. No one was going to wave their magic wand and sprinkle fairy dust over our life and make it all better. No one was coming.

And realizing this sucked. We were probably scared and angry and hurt. We may have even thrown a temper tantrum (or two or three) and flailed about for awhile - yelled and screamed at how much we hated living in an unfair world. We may have cried to the heavens above and asked God/the universe how could this happen? How could everyone abandon us in our absolute time of need?

Yes. We’ve all had this moment.

And that’s a good thing. A very good thing.

Because being on the other side of this moment - this temper tantrum - means that we have become a conscious, self-actualized grownup.

Yep. It’s true.

Because here’s the thing: In that moment when you let go of the fantasy that you were going to somehow be saved, you also (without even knowing it, most likely), grabbed onto the reality that YOU were somehow responsible for your own happiness, for your own life, for your own everything.

YOU.
Just you.

Now, this definitely doesn’t mean that you can’t lean on your loved ones and allow them to help you up when you need some support. No. It doesn’t mean that.

It means that you are aware that no matter how hard your loved ones tried to save you, they simply wouldn’t be able to. We are the only ones who can save ourselves - it’s just the way it is.

And the longer you give away your power and try to allow someone else to save you, the more pain and unhappiness you’ll face.

You get to decide how much suffering you would like to endure. It’s all up to you.

You have the power to create an amazing life. You have the power to design a beautiful existence that you are so excited to be a part of. You have the power to wake up, take charge, and do so much more than simply exist.

It’s all up to you.

Are you ready to step up and fully embrace your life? I sure hope so. It’s such an empowering way to live!

I created a free It’s Up to Me poster for you to remember how powerful you truly are! You can download it below and print it out! It’s saved at high resolution for you. I hope that it inspires you to always remember how you choose to live your life really is completely up to you. You’re that powerful!

up to me

We haven’t had a giveaway here on Soul Speak in awhile, and I’m super excited to bring this one to you!

You may already know my dear friend and soul sister, Julia Fehrenbacher (she’s shared space here on Soul Speak several times). Well, Julia is amazing and I adore her.

She’s created an authentic, soulful, loving course that I’m excited for you to know about. It’s a 40-day online soul class that begins on May 6th, and Julia is giving away 2 spaces in it! How wonderful is that? " class="wp-smiley"/>

I am honored to have shared a candid conversation with Julia inside the class, too. And I’m so excited for it that I’m going to be one of the participants!

Because the class begins on Monday the 6th, this giveaway is super short - Julia will choose 2 winners on Sunday the 5th at 9 pm pst. So please enter right away!

Here’s a bit of what Julia says about the class:

< blockquote>

Getting Naked is an invitation. It’s an invitation to shed all that’s in the way of your truest, never-been-created before, will-never-be-created again, one of a kind, absolutely REAL, love-filled Self.

It’s an invitation to shed the shoulds, the I can’ts, the comparisons, the thoughts and old stories that insist that you’re not enough—that you need to get more, be more, do more, have more, before you can fully BE finally.

It’ s an invitation to lay down the swords, the armor—to shed all the barriers within yourself that you have built between you and YOU/Love/God/Source/the Divine. It’s an invitation to live softly, boldly—truly—with wild, love-filled, faith-filled abandon.

It’s about living with absolute freedom and unapologetic brightness.

ItR 17;s about opening the door that was never closed. Recognizing that the only thing in the way of you living your most ALIVE, love-spilling life is you. And deciding, with every cell of you, to get out of your own way so you can share freely all of your gifted treasures!

Here’s what’s included in the class:
  • Uncensored/unpolished videos of Julia sharing her stories and inspiration
  • Real/raw conversations between Julia & other women on similar paths (including one from me!)
  • Poetry/art/quotes
  • < li>Exercises, challenges, & invitations to go deeper, open & trust and love more
  • An invitation to begin a daily practice that will nurture you & keep you coming back to your deepest, most alive Self
  • Guided meditations to nudge you back to your breath, your center - your place of softness, your place of power
  • The sharing of tools & treasures that Julia has gathered over the years….including little glimpses of her past journal entries
  • A private space/website to interact & connect…a soft, safe place to land, to love & be loved, to support and be supported
  • 40 consecutive days of receiving daily Love in your inbox (as well as on our private site)

I asked Julia a few questions about her journey in creating this class, which I’m happy to share here.

And then be sure to keep reading to learn how to enter to win a spot in this soul-filled class!

< span style="color: #993366;">I love the name - what does Getting Naked mean to you?

It’s so very good to be here again with you and your lovely readers, Jodi - thanks so much for having me!

To me, “Getting Naked” means shedding that which is in the way of being our most authentic, empowered selves. It means letting go of what no longer serves us, to lay down the armor, so we can show up fully for ourselves and each other. It means feeling the fear and moving anyway. It means letting our deep connection with Source/Love/The Divine lead the way rather than being held back by our little fear-brained selves. It means that our peace/joy depends on our connection with Source, with our deepest inside places, rather than being at the mercy of changing opinions/circumstance. It means knowing that we are worthy and enough just as we are, perceived “flaws” and all, and giving ourselves permission to live with full, unapologetic brightness.

Which part of this course makes your soul sing with joy?

I have never before created anything that feels so raw and vulnerable, that has required every ounce of my courage and strength and faith. I am amazed by how scary it feels to put myself out there in this way. And, at the same time, how completely, utterly ALIVE I have felt in the process of creating this.

What really makes my soul sing is that I’m giving myself permission (finally!) to show up with all of me - that I’m giving myself the freedom, for maybe the first time ever (in such a public way), to be vulnerably, fully me. And coming back, again and again, to trusting that this is enough.

Who would benefit the most from taking your course?

Anyone who is ready and willing to take off the mask of who they think they should be and is ready and wiling to show up with all of their beautiful, imperfect, just right selves. Anyone who is tired of holding back, of containing their gifts, of being at the mercy of fear, who is tired of making excuses and knows, really knows that their joy/peace/aliveness is their very own to claim. Anyone who is ready to say a big, bold, wholehearted, unapologetic YES to themselves - to life.

What do you hope everyone will take with them after completing it?

I hope they will walk away from these 40 days rooted in a peaceful, powerful knowing that who they are is more than enough - that the answers are all within, that this life is a precious gift and their very own to claim. I hope they will walk away inspired, empowered, encouraged to move through fear toward all that is calling them. I hope they will walk away with the freedom and courage to be all they are meant to be.

Can you share a bit about your own journey through fear as you’ve said yes to your soul and created such a beautiful course?

Whew! As I mentioned earlier, creating this course has taken every ounce of my courage. Whether I’m showing up to record a guided meditation, to share a story through writing or video or trying to figure out some complicated, confusing technical thing, right there next to me is trembling fear. Each time I show up to create, there is this little fear-brained part of me saying things like: You don’t know how to do this. It’s too much. What if it’s not good enough? What if you look like an idiot?

Every time I show up to create, I have to drop deep into the center of myself and trust that I will be shown/lead each step of the way. I’ve had to stretch, to step out of my comfort zone over and over again. It’s been an incredibly powerful, humbling experience to show up for myself in this way.

What does your soul want you to know?

My soul wants me to know that it’s enough to show up with all of me, just as I am. It wants me to breathe deeply, to trust that when I show up fully for this moment, I will be guided, that the hows will reveal themselves one step, one moment at a time.

Happy May! It’s that time again where I’ll pull one Soul Clarity Card for each person who leaves a comment!

I do this on the first day of every month, and it’s always so much fun to offer these messages straight from my soul to yours.

Before we start the messages, I wanted to let you know that it’s the absolute last day to receive the discounted price for the Soul Shakers’ community!

This group is for you if you are ready to reach your dreams! It could be that you already know your dream and would like support and accountability in reaching it. It could also be that you aren’t quite sure what your dream is and would like some support in figuring it out.

A beautiful group is forming, and I would love for you to join us! I am passionate about helping others live their dream life, and I made it super affordable for you!

You can join us for just $27, which includes a 25-page Dream Questionnaire, a 90-minute group session, a teaching video, accountability partners, and a Facebook group!

And now for your free Soul Clarity reading! " class="wp-smiley"/>

The Soul Clarity Card deck includes 48 cards to help you get clarity on what your soul wants you to know. My soul speaks to me in concise phrases, and so these cards were created with that in mind. Each card contains a guided action for you to consider – something to help you live soulfully and mindfully.

I believe that the answers are always within us, but sometimes our light gets covered up by life – all of the to-dos and the shoulds and work and errands and hurt and anger and all sorts of gunk. And it can be hard to sift through all of that and find our way home – back to our soul. These cards are a tool to help you on your journey back home.

Each card contains words that your soul needs you to hear. And whichever card you choose will be exactly the one you need in that exact moment. That’s just how it works!

I can’t wait to pull a card for you for free!

Here’s how it works: I’ll pull one card for anyone who leaves a comment at the end of the post before 5/2 at 11:59 pm pst! If your comment is posted before then, I promise I will pull a card for you. Each month when I open this up, I receive hundreds of requests, so please be patient with me. (If you happen to miss this deadline, please know that I’ll do it again on 6/1.)

All you have to write is “Yes, please!” or something similar. Please don’t feel that you need to share what you are looking to heal or what you would like guidance for. You are more than welcome to, but it’s not necessary. I know that this can be very personal, and your soul and the universe already know what you need. (If you are reading this via a reader or email, please click here to be taken to the post.)

Big hug to each of you.

Please spread the love by sharing this on Facebook and Twitter!

Have you ever had something magical happen to you - something that you couldn’t explain?

Something that you wanted to believe, but you just weren’t sure how you would be able to bypass your logical brain for a moment to actually believe that it actually happened?

I think that all of us have had these moments occur throughout our life. Often, probably. But we aren’t always awake when they happen. (And I’m not talking about being awake as in you’re not sleeping. I’m talking about being awake as in you’re aware and conscious.)

I believe that we’re constantly being guided by the universe. Constantly. And we may not even be aware of it. We may feel so busy with our life and so disconnected from it all that we shut out any signs of miracles - any evidence of magic.

Why? Because we think it’s just easier that way, right?

I’m definitely guilty of living this way. Pushing through - drudging on with my blinders up to anything that will steer me off of the path of just getting by.

But sometimes, these little magical moments turn into big magical moments - moments that are just too big and too amazing to miss. And that’s when you wake up, you pay attention, you stare at it in complete shock and complete awe. It’s in these moments where you decide that you’re ready to listen.

I’ve had so many of these moments throughout my life (both the little and the big). Meeting my husband was one of those moments. Knowing him even though we had never met. It was a true miracle. In my upcoming book, I write about another moment where I share what happened when I started receiving guidance from the other side (as a complete skeptic, this didn’t go over well at first, as I’m sure you can imagine!).

And something’s been happening lately that I just am so excited about that I had to share with you. I see it as one of these magical moments that is turning into a miracle right before my eyes.

xmas treeLate last fall, I went to my dentist for a root canal. Saying that I was anxious about it would be an understatement. It was something that I had put off for a long, long time - because of a combination of fear and also not making it a priority to take care of myself.

During the procedure, I experienced something truly magical. I closed my eyes and focused on turning my scared, shallow breaths into deep, full ones. Within a few minutes of doing this, I noticed that I was surrounded by a white light and saw an angel standing in front of me. I immediately recognized her as my spirit guide, Sarah. (I had felt her presence before but had never actually seen her.) I immediately could feel my breathing deepen, and I no longer felt scared. I knew that she was there to protect me and help me feel safe. Everything went smoothly, and I was so happy to have that behind me.

A couple of weeks later, my husband and I put up our Christmas tree. We wanted to start fresh, so we bought new lights and ornaments to put on. Our old ornaments and tree felt heavy to both of us, and it was so freeing to realize that we could start completely over this year.

I knew that I wanted to get an angel to represent Sarah’s loving presence in my life. (I’m still relatively new to this world of angels and spirit guides, and I’ve never had an angel anywhere in my home before - so this was a pretty big deal to me.) I found a gold one that I loved immediately, and I came home and put it on the tree.

We strung the lights around the tree and plugged them in. They were absolutely beautiful, but they were solid. I definitely preferred a blinking tree, so we decided that we would go out the following day and get the component that makes them blink.

We left the lights on all day and came into the living room that night to relax and unwind. And I was shocked when I noticed that part of the tree was blinking! One strand had decided to blink, even though it didn’t have the special component. It was the strand right next to the angel ornament, and I immediately wondered if Sarah had something to do with this.

I thought it was pretty amazing, but then I went back to my busy life.

The next day it was solid again when we plugged it in. And again the next day. And the next.

I was beginning to wonder if it was just a short in the strand - or just a one-time thing. I felt sad because I had hoped that Sarah was coming through and showing her presence.

We are always super busy with work around the holidays with our journal business, and I was working much longer hours than usual. One night, I just about collapsed from fatigue. I knew that I needed a break. And so I went into the living room, turned on the TV, put my feet up, and settled in to watch a movie.

And the lights began to blink. (For the time time in several days!) I went over to the tree and watched the strand. Its blinking wasn’t even but instead really sporadic. Something inside asked me to put my hand on my heart, which I did. And that’s when I realized that the lights were blinking to the same beat as my heart. (I have an irregular heartbeat.)

Wow.

You can see a video of what I mean by this here:

<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ffgBe 8eBZOQ?rel=0" height="315" width="420" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0"></iframe>

< p>Over the holiday season, I realized that the lights would blink when I took care of myself. When I rested. When I relaxed. And they were solid when I was busy and hurried and frenzied.

sarahWhen we took the tree down in January, I took the angel ornament and the magical strand of lights off and put them into a frame. I hung them in my office and waited for them to blink again.

I wanted to know if this was just about self care or if there was more to the message.

I turned them on every day for months. But they stayed solid.

Until last week.

Dan and I recently turned our production studio/office into a cozy den. Rather than being surrounded by work tables and paper boxes, I now had a comfortable, soothing space that felt more like a home than a studio. It was a great act of self care for us to take the time to do this - to create this loving space where we wanted to spend all of our time.

The transformed energy helped me sit down and get back to writing my book. But more importantly, it helped me chill out. Stop working around the clock. Embrace my life. It wasn’t uncommon for me to go several months without taking a day off. I love what I do, and I sometimes have to pull myself away from work in order to remember that I need care, too.

den and officeThe other night, I took time off from work to relax and watch a movie. I came into the den and for the first time since Christmas, I saw that my frame with the angel and the lights was blinking! I was so happy to see it. And the next night, I decided to take the entire night off. And the lights started to blink again.

There really is no rhyme or reason for the lights to blink other than it’s always when I’m taking time to relax and have fun. It could be in the beginning of the day or late at night. The lights are solid and on the majority of the time. And then as soon as I take care of myself, they begin to blink.

So there is definitely a magical connection between the lights blinking and me taking care of myself.

I can’t explain how or why this is working this way. All I can do is continue staying awake and continue paying attention to the miracles that are always happening all around me.

They’r e always happening all around you, too. I know it. I feel it.

Will you join me in staying awake so that you will notice them? Will you join me in embracing them, rather than immediately dismissing them because you can’t explain them or understand them? Will you join me in believing that they are possible?

I would love that. I know that so much more is happening in this magical universe than I will ever be able to understand. But I can definitely commit to staying as open as I can and continue to allow this beautiful energy to come into my world and keep waking me up.

I love that we all get to do that.

Hugs,

P.S. - Just before I posted this, I decided to take an extended work break. Dan and I played a few games of Wii together and sat down for a snack. The lights had been solid all day, and when I came into the den they were blinking. Just another affirmation that self care is what I’m meant to be focusing on! " class="wp-smiley"/>

<form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post" target="paypal">We all have a dream inside of us, just waiting to be born. And sometimes all it takes to bring our dream to life is a clear vision and a supportive community.

The brand-new Soul Shakers’ community is exactly that!

Last month, I introduced you to this mastermind group, which was designed to help each of us reach our dreams and be supported and loved while doing so. Many of you emailed me and said that you really, really wanted to join, but you weren’t sure how you could swing it financially.

I then had an intuitive reading with a friend of mine who said that the best way I can be of service right now is to listen. Just listen. Take into my heart what everyone is saying. And connect with as many people as possible.

Which is why I have completely restructured Soul Shakers and brought the cost WAY down - making it much more accessible to everyone! (Just $27 gets you in!)

I feel really passionately about helping as many as I can reach their dreams, and so I hope that this adjustment will allow many of you to join this community!

I’m sharing all of the details for Soul Shakers below! I would love for you to become part of this supportive community and make this the year where you bring your dreams to life!

These super low prices will only be in place through May 1st and space is limited, so if this is something you would like to try - definitely sign up now!

(If you’re reading this via email or a reader, I recommend clicking here to be able to view the videos and the page in its original formatting.)

< p><center>(If you’re reading this via email or a reader, you can view this video by clicking here.)</center>
I’m SO excited to introduce you to Soul Shakers! It’s an elite mastermind group for those of us who are ready to reach our dreams. It’s for those of us who know that we are more powerful when we support each other. It’s for those of us who are ready to ignite the world with our message!

We all have a dream inside our hearts. We all have a life purpose. We all feel pulled at some point in our life to go after these dreams.

Maybe you are a writer, and your dream is to start a blog and/or write books that will be read by people all over the world. Maybe you are a healer, and your dream is to help more people. Maybe you are a soul-preneur, and your dream is to share your products with the world. Or maybe you have already begun reaching your dreams, and you’re ready to soar into the next level!

We truly all have a dream inside of us. So why aren’t we all living our dream life, then? If it’s something that we all feel and we all want, why isn’t it happening for each of us?

There are many possible reasons:

♥ We’re afraid to go after our dreams. We worry what others will think about us if we pursue our dreams rather than live a “normal and safe” life.

♥ We don’t feel worthy of our dreams. We lack the self confidence to take a chance and try our dream on for size.

♥ We aren’t sure how to bring our dream to life. We may not have the skills or tools to help us live our ideal life.

♥ We don’t have external support to help us leap into our dream. We find that it’s too hard to go it alone.

♥ We haven’t gotten to the point where we have had enough with unfulfilled dreams. We haven’t been ready to completely commit to our dreams.

Whatever the case is for you, I’m here to tell you that you can reach your dreams. You are worthy of them. You were born with a purpose, and it’s your right to live it!

I am someone who used to be afraid of living my dreams, too. So I do understand how that feels. I know what it’s like to feel like a shell of who I knew I was meant to be - who I knew I could be.

And it’s a horrible feeling that I wouldn’t wish for anyone.

If you’re feeling this way, please know that I believe in you and your dream. I believe that you can bring it to life.

If you are tired of saying no to your dreams and are truly ready to make that leap, definitely keep reading about Soul Shakers - an elite mastermind group for special souls who are super serious about leaping into their dream life!

Special Introductory Pricing through 5/1!!!

You can join for just $27! Keep reading to learn more!

♥ Soulful guidance, partnership, and support - You will have direct access to me and the other members through group sessions and a private Facebook group for up to 12 months (depending on which plan you choose). Surrounding yourself with other movers and shakers is one of the quickest ways to reach your dreams! Our positive energy will be contagious, and together we will be unstoppable!

♥ A detailed Dream Questionnaire to help you get super clear about your dream, your focus, and your action steps to help you bring it to life (24 pages!)! This will help you get clear about where you are starting from and where you want to go. It will also help you see where your strengths are and where you could use support.

Monthly 90-minute mastermind sessions (via Skype) where each person will have a chance to share their dreams and ask the group members for support in reaching them. You will be in a group with others who are just as committed as you are to reaching their dreams. And I will be there facilitating the group to make sure everyone gets a chance to share. I’ll also offer my guidance and support you in reaching your dreams. Each small group will be limited to 8 people to make sure everyone has a chance to share.

(We’re meeting on Skype rather than by phone because I think it makes such a huge difference to connect on a deeper level when we can see each other. That being said, I know how scary Skype can feel for many of us. I was terrified for the first several times I used it, but now it feels completely normal. If you don’t believe in the power of accountability and group support, this is not for you.

I know what it’s like to have a dream and not quite know how to bring it to life. I know how scary it can feel to hear your soul’s whisper - urging you to pursue your calling - and ignore it because of fear and uncertainty. I know how it feels to go to a job each day that I wasn’t passionate about. I know how it feels to have my spirit feel smaller and smaller when I didn’t listen to it and allowed fear to call the shots.

Thankfully, that’s all changed! For over 10 years now, I have been living my dream life. I took the leap, quit my job, and created a life that feeds my soul - a life that I am proud to live.

Has it always been easy? Definitely not. But it has always been soul filled and purpose driven. It has always been MY life. And I love being the creator of it. I love knowing that if something isn’t working, I can change it.

My dream began by running my own gift business, and it has evolved into where I am today: blogging, writing books, inspiring, sharing, connecting, creating, and living fully and freely.

While everyone’s dream is different and unique, we each have it inside ourselves to bring our dream to life and to embrace and live it fully.

I have done that with my own dreams, and I really would love for you to do this with yours, too!

In this mastermind group, I will share what I have learned along the way in bringing my own dreams to life. In just two years, I have created a successful, award-winning blog. I have written bestselling books. I have helped others embrace their lives again through my Coming Back to Life Ecourse and my Waking Up Together group. I have shared the virtual stage with and become friends with many of the leading experts in the personal-growth field.

I am so grateful for the direction my life has taken, and I know that it didn’t happen by chance. I have consciously created this life by investing in myself, by learning and growing, by connecting with others, and by continuing to pursue my dreams.

And now I want to support you in leaping into your dream. I want to show you that it’s possible. I want to help guide you into your dream life.

I want to cheer you on as you listen to your soul’s calling and believe that you’re worthy of living your ideal life. I want to help you leap into the life you were born to live.

I am so blessed to have helped some amazing souls reconnect with their purpose and reach their dreams! Their loving testimonials follow:

Have you ever been given a wonderful opportunity that you were really excited about – something that you have dreamed of, worked hard for, and couldn’t wait to pursue?

And just when you were ready to leap toward this opportunity, a voice inside of you said, “Just forget it. You’ll probably screw it up.” And just by hearing these words, your confidence immediately crumbled. You began to question whether you were truly ready for this change – whether you would ever be ready. Instead of leaping toward this new life, you retreated back into your old one. You settled for the mundane – the known – the mediocre.

If this sounds at all familiar, you’re definitely not alone.

Change can be scary. Reaching for our dreams can be scary. Pushing out of our comfort zones can be scary. So during these moments of potential transition, it makes perfect sense that our inner critics would throw a temper tantrum or try to dissuade us from stretching. This part of us is desperately trying to get us to realize that we should just stay the same. It tells us that there is no need to change - things are fine the way they are.

I recognize this voice all too well. It is the voice that has guided me for almost my entire life. The voice that kept me protected also kept me from really enjoying my life. It kept me from experiencing great joy and leaping forward into exciting opportunities. By listening to this voice, I allowed myself to stay small and safe in fear’s tight grasp. Instead of stretching and pursuing my wildest dreams and deepest desires, I clung to the known and retreated back to safety. Throughout my life I have allowed my critic to take me out of the game of life before I am even a part of it.

Is this voice in the driver’s seat of your life, too? Have there been opportunities that you passed up because of fear? Have you ever let the ball drop on your dream simply because your inner critic thought it was too much of a stretch for you?

What would your life look like if you pushed your inner critic aside and leaped over it – soaring to new heights?

You can. I know this for sure because I have begun this process, and I know you can, too.

Here are five steps to get you started:

1. Recognize this voice for what it is – the part of you that wants to keep you safe. This voice sees new experiences as scary experiences. It loves the known. It wants nothing more than to see you living a comfortable life where you never are at risk of failing. And when you can really see that this voice is not trying to hurt you – rather that it is coming from a place of love – you will immediately be able to re-frame the way you look at it.

2. Write down how fear has changed the outcome of your life. Take out a piece of paper, and draw a line down the center. On the left-hand side, list some of the times throughout your life when you listened to your critic and chose not to pursue your dreams. On the right-hand side, write down what your life may have looked like if you had taken a risk and followed your dream. This is a great way to see in black and white how fear has kept us from living our ideal life. It’s an opportunity to become conscious and take responsibility for our role in creating our lives. Now we can begin to be more aware of our patterns and default settings and push ourselves when similar opportunities arise.

3. Ask yourself, “What is the worst and the best that could happen if you take a risk and go for your dream?” Take out another piece of paper, and draw a line down the center. Write your dream or an opportunity that you would like to pursue at the top. On the left-hand side, write down the worst thing that could happen if you didn’t pursue this dream. On the right-hand side, write down the best result that could happen if you did pursue it. So often when we hear our inner critic listing all of the reasons why we shouldn’t take the leap toward our dreams, we listen without taking time to dissect the argument. And many times when we do delve in and start going through each reason, we find that there isn’t really any substance behind them. Only fear of the unknown. Fear of looking silly. Fear of failing. But the possibility of succeeding is just as likely as any of these fears - probably even more so. And in most cases, when we write down the absolute worst thing that could happen as a result of this, the best thing that could happen far outweighs it.

4. Learn to love your inner critic. This voice is not your enemy; in fact, it keeps you safe and secure. There is definitely a time and place to let your critic be heard. So when the time is appropriate, listen to this voice. You can even choose to give it a name as a way to get to know this part of you better. Being aware of when it is truly keeping you from harm (for good reasons) and when it is keeping you from your dreams (due to fear) is a crucial step in reining in this voice and taking back your life. Know that when your critic shows up, it means you’re getting out there and taking risks. If you never heard this voice, that would mean that you were remaining comfortable and safe and never venturing out. So use your inner critic as a barometer for whether you are truly living.

5. Have faith in yourself and your dreams. Keep moving forward toward your dreams. Don’t let your inner critic and the fear that comes along with it stop you from living the life you want to live. The more we allow our critic to call the shots, the more powerful it becomes. The more we stop going for our dreams because this voice tells us that they are too far out there, too scary, too impossible to achieve, the harder it is to start up and begin reaching again. Keep moving forward no matter what this voice says.

Always remember that you are in control of your own destiny. Your inner critic is here to protect you, to keep you safe. You get to decide how much power and air time this voice will get. When my own inner critic pops up, I listen to it, thank it for showing up, and then push it aside. I have too many dreams that need to be realized. And so do you.

Please help spread the love by sharing this post on Facebook and Twitter!

Hugs,

Yesterday’s tragedy in Boston has been heavy on my heart. Thinking about those who have been impacted directly - those who have lost a loved one - makes me feel sad, angry, and absolutely helpless.

It brings me back to 9/11 - the first time my idealistic bubble had ever been burst. I couldn’t imagine that someone could fill their life with so much hatred. I couldn’t believe that someone would want a complete stranger to die. My heart broke for those who would never see their loved ones again.

And yesterday’s tragedy brought up so many of these dormant feelings.

I started to spiral downward. I could feel it.

I was in physical pain in my shoulders, almost as though I were carrying the weight of the world there. I couldn’t concentrate on work. It seemed so trivial to me when so many were suffering so deeply at that exact moment. I started to wonder about the type of person who could commit such a horrific act. And while I haven’t seen pictures online or watched the news (a decision I made after 9/11), I know enough to know that it’s sickening and heartbreaking and devastating.

And that’s when the tears started to flow. The helpless, angry, hopeless, I-don’t-want-to-live-in-a-world-w here-people-can-commit-such-hateful-acts tears.

I started to spiral downward. I could feel it.

My jaw started cracking. My gums started bleeding. My body was hurting. My head was hurting. My heart was aching. My soul was crying.

As an empath, I immediately internalize others’ pain and suffering. It just happens, and if I’m not careful, I will carry it with me for days (or even years).

I have realized through the years that my suffering isn’t taking anyone else’s suffering away.

I have realized that the only way to help another out of their own suffering is to love them.

That’s it.

Just love them.

So in this instance, while I can’t bring back those who have died, I can send extra love to those who are living. While I can’t heal the hearts of those who are afraid, I can send them extra love and let them know on an energetic level that I am there for them. While I can’t take away the pain of everyone who is feeling sorrow about what happened, I can let love pour out of me and into the hearts of everyone who needs it.

This is what I can do.

And somehow, knowing this makes me feel a little bit better.

I can grieve. I can honor those who died. I can embrace those who are still living. And I can send love to anyone and everyone who needs it a bit extra. Today, tomorrow, and every day after that.

This I can do.

And so can you.

So, I would ask each of us right now to close our eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine that love is flowing from our hearts into the world. When it leaves your body, you can see it going into everyone’s heart - those you know and those you don’t. Your love has the ability to heal absolutely everyone.

And I love that. We’re definitely not helpless in the face of such a tragedy. Definitely not.

We always have an endless supply of love in our hearts.

And today, I would love for all of us to let it flow into the world and land where it’s most needed.

Hugs,

A Shared Wisdom Guest Post Featuring Akemi Gaines

The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, humanity will have discovered fire. - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Somehow life doesn’t always throw a nice ball. When you are criticized unkindly or treated badly, how do you deal with it?

In some cases, speaking up is just what it takes. Other times, you might want to simply dismiss it because it’s not worth your time and attention.

There is another way, which may sound strange at first - to send love and gratitude to the very person who put you down.

Love diffuses painful situations and heals our hurt feelings. However, actually practicing this takes practice. Let me share one of my recent experience as an example.

One morning, I opened my inbox and saw an email that said, “I hate u. Don’t send me ur crap any more.”

I didn’t even understand what happened. Huh? What is this about? Who is this? I checked the previous email exchange and found that it was someone who wrote to me asking about my service. I thanked him for his interest and sent him the link to my website for that service. I also followed up with him when I started my Facebook page.

That’s what he was referring to. . . my follow up email.

So what could I do?

  • Write back to him, pointing out how unfair and rude he is?
  • Just delete the email?

I typically stay away from the first confrontational way because I know it’s futile. He may or may not get back, and if he does, the argument gets worse and worse. No one wins, and I just waste my energy.

But the second introverted way isn’t helpful, either. I can delete an email but I cannot delete my hurt feelings. I’d probably carry these heavy, unresolved feelings for quite some time.

So I instead tried sending him love and gratitude. And I found that it helped diffuse my hurt and anger. It helped me feel better.

If you’re ready to try this technique, here are some tips:

1. Fake it till you make it. When you are facing criticism or mean comments, you may not feel gratitude right away. You don’t need to force yourself at this point. Take a walk or do something else. When you feel reasonably calm, but not quite grateful, pretend you are. Think of it as a game. Humor yourself, put a silly grin on, and just say, “thank you” in your mind. How long do you need to fake it? Until you realize how big your reservoir of love is. Then it’s not faking any more - it becomes natural.

2. You don’t need to tell. You don’t need to tell the person who put you down something like, “Thank you for your email. I appreciate this learning experience.” The gratitude treatment is for yourself.

3. Visualize. If sending love and gratitude without talking to the person is a new approach for you, try visualization. Imagine this person and send them a big ballon of love and gratitude.

Please understand I am not suggesting you should tolerate abuse. If someone treats you badly habitually, you might want to remove yourself from such toxic environment. That’s love, too. Self-love is the mother of all love.

Once you get the hang of it, this quiet gratitude is almost fun. LOVE, love, swell with love until there is no room left for that unpleasant feeling of being ill-treated or rejected.

Finally, here is something interesting I’ve noticed: the more I practice gratitude, the more I find things and people to be grateful for!

So often, we resist fear. We see it as something to be, well, feared. And what we resist persists. And so the more that we push fear aside and the longer we go without really looking at it and figuring out where it is coming from, the more that we let it drive and continue to control us. The bigger we allow it to become.

But here’s something to remember: Fear only exists in our minds.

It is a human emotion. When we are in spirit form, there is never a need for fear – only love. And fear and love can’t exist at the same time. It’s true!

When we are on Earth, we sometimes forget about love. We sometimes forget that we are made of love and can always go back to our loving core. We allow our minds to take over, which causes an imbalance. And it’s in this imbalance that fear is allowed in.

I believe that fear is the absence of love. It could be the absence of self love. The absence of romantic love. The absence of feeling universal love. When we feel that any of these are missing from our lives, we create a space that fear is able to step into.

But that’s not to say that fear is a negative emotion. It is a tool to help us learn more about ourselves. It is here for a reason. If we always remembered that we are made of love and always had access to divine love at any given time, it would be a blissful existence, but it wouldn’t necessarily be a human existence. We know these things in spirit form, but it’s a process to remember them when we are in human form.

By acknowledging the fear in our lives, we diminish its power. Fear can’t live where there is love. So by embracing fear and surrounding it with our love energy, we make it impossible for it to exist in our lives. We make it possible to move through our fears. We make it possible to live on purpose – to live the life we were meant to live rather than the life we are living because we have been afraid to live.

Are you ready to embrace your fear?

The following exercise will help you embrace and then release your fear - it will help you visualize your fear dissolving into love.

Take a few deep breaths. In and out. In and out. And repeat until you’re feeling relaxed and centered.

And now, close your eyes and imagine that you are in a bubble that is filled with light – a bright, white light that is warm and radiates love. You are in the center, and this light is all around you. You are floating inside this beautiful white bubble – peaceful and calm.

Now imagine that you scan through your entire body looking for your fears. You start with your toes and work your way up – gathering up your fear and moving it all to the top of your head. And then imagine that the crown of your head opens up and you allow one fear to come into the bubble.

You see the words that describe the fear floating around. For instance, if you’re afraid of public speaking, you would see those words, etc.

And now imagine that you allow this bubble’s loving energy to soak up and embrace this fear. Imagine that this fear can’t exist in such a loving space, and so it simply gets absorbed by the light that’s all around you.

And you do this one by one, until all of your fear is absorbed – until all of your fear becomes light. Until all of your fear becomes love.

And then take several deep breaths. And just be in this loving space for a few more moments. And when you’re ready, open your eyes and enjoy this feeling of lightness that has come over you!

Please repeat this exercise any time you’re feeling like fear is beginning to take over. Embrace it and then allow it to dissolve into love.

Are you living your passion?

Do you know what your passion is?

When you think about your life, does a part of you light up inside, or do you feel drained and stuck somehow?

Passion is a big deal. We all have it inside of us, and yet it can sometimes seem a bit daunting to mold our life around it, right? It can seem scary and embracing it could feel like going against the grain in our comfortable life. What if we go after our passion and fail? What if we were wrong, and we’re not really passionate about what we thought we were passionate about after all? The “what ifs” can stop us before we ever take our leap toward a passionate life.

I definitely know how it feels to stuff my passion down and squash it beneath all of my fears and insecurities. I know what it’s like to wake up every day and go to a job that I actively disliked and cared so little for. I know what it’s like to leave that job each day crying and frustrated - feeling so small that this is what my life had become.

But I also know what it’s like to turn it all around and embrace my passion wholeheartedly. I know what it’s like to wake up, walk into my home office, and write words that will be read by someone who needed to read them that day. I know what it’s like to connect with someone who needed a boost of inspiration at the exact moment that our paths crossed. I know what it’s like to envision and create a life that feels exactly like who I am and what I know I was born to do.

But living my passion didn’t happen overnight, and it definitely didn’t happen without effort and conscious choice and daring to leap.

I always knew that I was passionate about writing, but I didn’t truly believe that it’s what I would do for a living. I wanted to write feel-good pieces that inspired people and lifted them up. I wanted to fill the world with writing that contained sap and hearts and lots of love. “Who does that?” I would say to myself, and then quickly dismiss this inner yearning.

Growing up, I often wondered why I couldn’t just be happy with writing fiction or being a journalist - what I considered more mainstream writing careers. But sadly, I just wasn’t passionate about either of them. All I wanted to do was draw swirls and hearts and pretty letters and let the entire world know that everything was going to be okay. That they were loved, and that we were all on this journey together.

But I didn’t feel like I could embrace such a Pollyanna-like dream.

So I decided that I would become someone serious and respected. I would become a lawyer. My first two years of college were pre-law, and I was bored, bored, bored. When I realized that I would be miserable as a lawyer, I instead decided that I would be a technical editor – it felt safe, and I knew I could get a job with this skill. Which is exactly what I did when I graduated. But I wasn’t happy doing it. It wasn’t creative or positive or inspiring – I wasn’t writing or creating at all. I was helping someone else live their dream while mine seemed like it had been permanently shelved.

After years of squashing my passion for writing, I slowly began to remember. I would write a poem. Or create a post. And each time I gave birth to a new creation, I felt a spark inside of me begin to reignite. And that gave me the courage to write more and create more.

I finally took the leap and made this my full-time job nine years ago. It has evolved over the years - focusing at first on the visual creations, then combining my writing and art together into functional products, and finally where I am today: an inspirational writer.

But like I said, this life didn’t just happen overnight - it actually took years of struggle for me to be okay with my passion and not feel silly about it. I needed to let go of my own insecurities about my purpose and get out of my own way. I needed to let my soul drive - knowing that all of this warmth and sappiness inside of me was meant to be shared. Once I realized that it was okay to put all of myself into my writing, the words and ideas began to flow.

I was so excited to be embracing my passion, and while it took a few years to be able to make a living at it, it was definitely worth persevering for. By then, I had ignited my own passion spark, and it felt SO good to embrace it and let it run rampant throughout each part of my life.

And now, I couldn’t imagine not living my passion – not waking up every day and living my dream. It’s been such an amazing journey. (It also helps immensely to have my beautiful husband standing next to me – supporting me and loving me each step of the way. We leaped together, and that helps a whole lot. I also believe that I’ll always be supported by the universe, and knowing that allows me to take risks and really leap – I know I’ll never fall too far down where I won’t be able to get back up again.)

Finding and living my passion is a daily choice that I make. I would love to say that one day I woke up, snapped my fingers, and poof! I was living my passion! But, it definitely didn’t happen that way. I am 37 now, so I would say that it’s taken 37 years to truly live my passion. Because each life experience has led to right where I am today. And if the experiences hadn’t happened exactly how they did, who knows where I would be right now.

I love my life. I love the fact that I get to create and write every single day. I love that others find my words inspiring, and I love hearing stories about how lives are changing because of them. I frequently feel like I’m the luckiest woman in the world, and I haven’t always been able to say that.

I believe it’s because I said yes to my dream, and my dream has continued to say yes back to me ever since. I love how it happens like that.

And I know that it can happen to you that way, too. I know it. It’s really just a matter of choosing passion.

Really choosing it over all of those negative thoughts and worries and fears. Finding what you’re passionate about, embracing it, and then being brave enough to live it.

I know you can do it. I know that you have so much passion inside of you that can’t wait to be expressed! So please, get out there and express it!
