Online Women’s Social Networks Should Take Note of These Moms
Celebrity mom’s make great targets: gossip fodder, harmless amusement, and style icons, they can offer the perfect distraction. But many of them are also inspirational women who effectively balance their celebrity status, their parenthood, and their giving spirit. Many of them are members of an important online women’s social network and all of those discussed here provide great examples of ways to contribute, collaborate, lead a life of purpose and represent inspiration in action.
- Angelina Jolie – an obvious choice for and Forbes’ most powerful celebrity for 2010, this mother of six has been a United Nations goodwill ambassador since 2001, and travels the world raising awareness of and money to combat global poverty. She has everything going for her and continues to astound onlookers with her genuine commitment to compassionate and humanitarian work.
- Julia Roberts – this Hollywood icon has three children that she tends to keep out of the limelight. But this hasn’t gotten in the way of her humanitarian efforts, including traveling, speaking, and working with UNICEF to raise awareness of poverty and hunger, a campaign to help children with a stutter overcome it just as she did, and working hard to promote biofuels to combat global warming.
- Michelle Obama – wife of President Barack Obama, the First Lady is a powerhouse mother of inspiration in her own light. She played an important humanitarian role in thrice-ravaged Haiti, and has made improving health and combating childhood obesity in the United States her primary goal. She has also sought to be an example as a parent balancing professional success with family time.
- Rosie O’Donnell – a champion for LBGT rights and married but separated mother of four, O’Donnell has made gay rights and helping children her life’s focus. She is a strong believer in the importance of adoption and foster car, promoting education and childhood development, and the general responsibility of celebrities to support charity. The controversial figure has also raised money to help war veterans receive rehabilitation therapy and to support displaced families across the United States.
No doubt some online women’s social networks would suggest other inspirational celebrity moms, some perhaps arguably more worthy. But the point of this list is the thread that unites them all: they are hard-working professionals, completely dedicated to providing a loving home for their children, biological or otherwise, and still find the time to commit to a cause and then use their resources and good fortune to help those in need.
