Taking Women’s Organizations Global with Online Networking
Connect Your Women’s Organization with an International Partner
Women’s organizations all over the world continue to prove the power that women have when they come together for a purpose. But many of these organizations evolved in the early 20th Century, and so were constrained by time and geography. Even national women’s organizations in the United States were really just a loosely coordinated federation of local groups. But now, every organization can establish an online community for women. The result is far more effective, unified international women’s organizations that can confront issues at the global level.
Not only does this allow local groups to expand their area of interest, but it also facilitates the creation of globally oriented groups, and perhaps most interestingly, allows women’s organizations from different parts of the world to pool their resources and offer the kind of help that is easy for some groups to provide, but still incredibly valuable for those on the receiving end. And after it all, two groups feel united, more fulfilled, and grateful for the opportunity.
Everyone knows an example of this story, and it never fails to inspire feelings of happiness and generosity. The small women’s church group in a sleepy southern California beach town somehow connects with a group of Mayan mothers in the Yucatán who happen to be suffering from a lower than average harvest. The relationship results in one group learning more efficient farming and storage practices while the other learns about delivering knowledge tools and developing global support networks across language and culture.
There are countless opportunities for women in the United States to engage in this kind of networking, from philanthropic aid and outreach, to service and skill exchange, to a simple travel opportunity. No matter what a woman or new women’s organization hopes to gain and to offer, through international, online networking with other women, they will be able to find it and realize a far more expanded scale and exposure than they could have otherwise hoped for.
